What are SKUs?

An SKU is a unique identifier that helps you group similar inventory items sharing specific characteristics. For example, all adult city bikes of the same model could share one SKU, regardless of color, while maintaining individual article IDs for precise tracking.

Benefits of SKU Grouping

  • Simplified Management: Track multiple items as a unified group
  • Better Organization: Easily categorize items by relevant characteristics
  • Improved Efficiency: Streamline order fulfillment and inventory counts
  • Enhanced Reporting: Get clearer insights into inventory performance

How to Group Items Using SKUs

Create a New SKU

  1. Navigate to Inventory > SKUs
  2. Click "Create New SKU"
  3. Enter:
    • SKU Name (e.g., "City Bike Adult")
    • SKU Code (e.g., "CITYBIKE")
    • Tracking Method (Individual/Bulk)

Assign articles to SKUs

Once you have created an SKU, you can select it when you assign new articles to SKUs. There are two different places in TWICE Commerce where you can do so.

  1. In the Inventory section under the Articles tab.
  2. In the catalog section, under the availability section.

Best Practices

  • Use Consistent Naming: Create a standardized naming convention for your SKUs
  • Group Strategically: Items under one SKU should be interchangeable for your business needs
  • Keep it Simple: Don't over-complicate your grouping structure
  • Regular Review: Periodically audit your SKU groups to ensure they still make sense
